Concrete Leveling & Mudjacking in Corpus Christi, TX

A driveway, patio, walk or pool deck that dropped in one or a few large pieces can usually be lifted back into place instead of broken out and poured again. Small holes are drilled, material is pumped underneath, and the slab rises as the gap fills.

Foam Leveling and Mudjacking

  • Foam leveling (polyjacking) injects expanding polyurethane foam through small holes. It is light, so it adds little weight to clay that already settled, and it cures quickly.
  • Mudjacking (slabjacking) pumps a cement slurry through larger holes. It is heavier and usually costs less.
  • Both only work when the concrete is still in large, sound pieces.

Good Candidates for Concrete Leveling

  • Driveway sections that dropped at the garage or the street
  • Patios and walks that tilt toward the house
  • Pool decks that sank or pulled away from the coping
  • Garage floors and porches poured over loose fill

Lifting is not the answer for concrete broken into many small pieces, crumbling on top, or pushed up by roots. And if the slab is the house foundation itself, the fix is underneath it: see house leveling and foundation piers.

Why Flatwork Drops on the Coastal Bend

Most sunken flatwork comes down to the base. Fill that was never compacted keeps settling, water from a downspout or a sprinkler washes soil out from under an edge, and clay under one side shrinks in a dry spell. A patio that tilts toward the house then sends rain straight to the foundation.

Keep It From Sinking Again

Seal the joints with a flexible sealant once the slab is lifted, carry downspouts past the concrete, and fix grading that sends water under it. Typical prices are in our guide to foundation repair cost in Corpus Christi.

More Questions About Concrete Leveling & Mudjacking

Will the holes show after leveling?

Yes, a little. The holes are patched after the lift, so you will see a few round spots in a slightly different shade. Foam uses smaller holes than mudjacking, so the spots are smaller.

Can concrete leveling lift a pool deck?

Often, yes, if the deck sank in sound sections. The contractor needs to know where the pool plumbing runs so the holes miss it, and the joint between the deck and the coping usually needs new sealant afterward.

Foam or mudjacking on clay?

Both can work. Foam is lighter, so it adds less weight to clay that already settled, and it cures fast. Mudjacking usually costs less. Ask why the contractor recommends one over the other for your slab.

Why did my driveway sink in the first place?

Usually because the fill under it was not compacted, or water got under the edges and washed out the base. On clay, a long dry spell can also shrink the soil under one side. Sealing joints and moving downspouts away from the slab help the lift last.

Can I park on it right away?

With foam, often within a short time. With mudjacking, the slurry needs time to set, so expect to wait longer. Ask the contractor before the work so you can plan.
